HUD funds housing counseling agencies throughout the country who can give you advice on reverse mortgages. Just contact the agency nearest to you from the list below, or call (603) 358-1002.
Since 2001, HUD has partnered with the AARP Foundation to train, test, and certify a network of expert HECM counselors. If you want to talk to a counselor trained and certified by AARP Foundation, look on the list of agencies employing AARP Certified Counselors. Expert HECM counselors trained and certified by the AARP Foundation work for HUD-approved housing counseling agencies. All of the agencies employing these expert HECM counselors are included in HUD's state-by-state listing of HECM Counseling Agencies, linked below.
Homeowners with problems that could result in default of their mortgage or foreclosure on their property are encouraged to contact a HUD-approved housing counseling agency immediately.
